“My dog doesn’t need it” – a comment we take seriously
Sooner or later it shows up under almost every post about dogpaper: the comment “My dog doesn’t need it.” Sometimes friendly, sometimes with a wink, sometimes with a slight shake of the head. And honestly? We like this comment. It shows that dog owners look closely at what their dog really needs – and what it doesn’t.
A Havanese owner recently sent us a reply that was so honest we decided to dedicate this whole article to it. In her words: “Most of the time mine really doesn’t need it. But on soft days I’m glad I can simply use the poop bag I carry anyway.” That is exactly the point. Not a must, but a simple move that comes in handy at the right moment.
Usually true – and that’s perfectly fine
Many dogs do their business and there is nothing to see on their bottom afterwards. Firm stool, a quick moment, and the walk goes on. In these cases dogpaper simply stays what every dog poop bag is: the bag you use to pick up the poop. Hand in, pick up, flip over, tie the knot – done. The hygiene paper on the outside does not get in the way. On the contrary: thanks to the paper, dogpaper picks up more residue from the ground than an ordinary plastic bag.
Our Havanese owner describes herself with a healthy dose of self-irony: “I was the first one to laugh when I heard about toilet paper for dogs.” But with a small dog with long, soft fur, she noticed that there are those days after all. Days when the stool is a bit softer and something stays stuck to the butt. Nothing dramatic, nothing gross – but noticeable. The dog turns around, sniffs, looks a little unhappy. And that is when a quick wipe is exactly what is needed.
Soft days: when one move inside the bag is enough
This is the real idea behind dogpaper. You do not have to pack anything extra – no tissue, no additional wipes, no second bag. As a dog walker you always carry a poop bag anyway; picking up after your dog has long been part of the routine. dogpaper improves this existing routine instead of inventing a new one.
On a soft day by the field path it looks like this: your dog has done its business and is still standing there. You crouch down beside it, pull out the bag and take care of both right there on the spot. No digging through your jacket for a tissue, no juggling two things in one hand, no extra waste in your pocket. One bag, one move, done. Many owners tell us their dog visibly feels more comfortable afterwards and happily keeps sniffing along.
The move explained – step by step
We have learned that a short “wipe and pick up at the same time” raises more questions than it answers. So here is the exact routine:
Step 1 – Hand in the bag: Put your hand into the grey dogpaper bag, just like with any other dog poop bag. Your hand sits inside like in a glove. On the outside of the bag is the soft white hygiene paper.
Step 2 – Wipe the butt: Use the paper side to wipe once directly under the tail. Your hand stays inside the bag and therefore stays clean.
Step 3 – Grab the poop: With the same hand, still inside the bag, you pick up the poop from the ground right afterwards. That is what “in the same move” means: first the butt, then the poop – without taking your hand out and without a second bag.
Step 4 – Flip and tie: Now turn the bag inside out. Paper and poop end up on the inside, you tie a knot and drop the bag into the nearest bin or your general waste. The whole thing takes just a few seconds.
One bag instead of two – why it still belongs in your pocket
A common objection is: “Even more waste?” The honest answer: quite the opposite. If you used to grab a poop bag plus a tissue on soft days, you had two things to throw away. With dogpaper it is only one. And on the days your dog does not need a wipe, you simply use it as a regular dog poop bag. So there is no extra waste – if anything, there is less.
That is what makes dogpaper unique worldwide: it is the only product that combines a dog poop bag and dog hygiene paper in one. Every single time, you decide whether to just pick up or to give the butt a quick wipe first. Nobody forces you to do anything.
Our Havanese owner summed it up like this: “Most of the time he doesn’t need it. But I carry it anyway – and on soft days I’m grateful for it.” We could not put it more honestly ourselves. So our question remains, without any wagging finger: Did you wipe your dog’s butt today?
